My ventures into the world of music-theatre began in 1988 with a commission to co-write (and perform in) 'O'er The Hills' - the story of Northumbrian piper Jamie Allan. This piece also featured Kathryn Tickell and was the beginning of a long, fruitful and highly creative association with music-theatre.

2016 New tours for 'Frankenstein' and 'Le Petit Prince' with both shows touring Europe and the Far East. The new production to replace 'Many Voices' after seven successful years is 'Half Broke Horses' based on the novel by Jeanette Walls. Gave me the chance to play the banjo! It was a virtual instrument but nevertheless was great fun to do! The year will end as always with our live version of 'Dinner For One' couple with our original 'Breakfast For Three'. Three consecutive performances at the fabulous Gasteig in Munich

2015 'Peter Pan' and 'Le Petit Prince' finished rehearsals in January and both shows began their tours of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. These shows have been freshly produced by ADGE with all new music from myself. 'Goya' is postponed until 2016 due to time constraints - too many shows to prepare this season! 'The Canterville Ghost' will be retoured in October this year, as will 'Frankenstein'. No new music to compose but new casts to teach the songs and cues to! Both shows will tour extensively in Europe and Asia.

2014 'Many Voices' began its 7th and final tour of Germany. We never imagined it would be successful for so long and January rehearsals will never be the same again! 'Frankenstein' began an eight week tour of France but is scheduled for a much longer twenty week tour (Germany, Far East) from September this year. I've also been commissioned to write new music for 'Le 'Petit Prince' and 'Peter Pan' - long running successes for ADGE but this year with new versions to keep things fresh. A music-theatre piece about the life of Goya is currently being scripted for the next Spanish language production and work on that will begin towards the end of the year for a 2015 tour.

2013 began with 'Macbeth', 'Many Voices' and'Much Ado About Nothing', along with the continuing tours of 'Brave New World' and 'Gulliver's Travels'. Later in the year a new version of 'Jekyll & Hyde' made its tour debut in Europe, plus a rerun of 'Frankenstein' began. The National Theatre in Costa Rica are going to run our version of 'Brave New World' (in Spanish) in the autumn of this year. A short tour of 'Dinner For One' has become traditional at New Year, of course!

2012 began with reruns of the already successful 'Many Voices', 'Much Ado About Nothing', 'La Casa De Bernada Alba' and 'Don Quixote' (touring together), plus a new production of 'The Canterville Ghost'. 'Macbeth' and 'Midsummernights Dream' will be touring the castles of Germany this year then in the Autumn 'Brave New World' and 'Gulliver's Travels' will begin long tours visiting Germany, Japan, China, and Costa Rica. A busy time ahead! The year finished, as ever, with a small tour of 'Dinner For One', this time featuring New York actress Laurie Dawn. Great fun!

It was a busy start to 2011 with two new shows needing music; 'Much Ado About Nothing' and 'La Casa De Bernada Alba'. 'Many Voices' toured again in February and 2011 will also see the retouring of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and 'Macbeth'. The compositions for Gail Sixsmith's audio/visual piece 'Dark Matter', exploring the character of Lady Macbeth, are almost complete and it is hoped to have a DVD ready later in 2011. 'Dinner For One' this year did five performances including the Bernhard Theatre in Zurich. This year's show featured German actress and Hollywood veteran Christine Kaufmann, and we added a new sketch 'Breakfast For Three', a fun look at the morning after Miss Sophie's dinner party, and a comic look at how the characters had come to be part of Sophie's life.

My music-theatre projects for 2010 were the restaging of two favourites 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' and 'Death of a Salesman' for the Autumn season. 'Salesman' toured Germany and Switzerland but 'Cuckoo's Nest' was a lengthy tour performing in China and Japan as well as Germany, Poland, Malta and the Scandinavian countries, running well into 2011. The ever popular 'Dinner For One' performed four times this year.

Already completed this year are; 'Don Quixote', performed in Spanish and also being retoured soon in Costa Rica with actors from that country; 'Many Voices' which is still very popular in Germany and retoured for the fourth year running; 'Macbeth' which visited China, Singapore and Australia - a first for ADGE and for my music! This year also saw 'The Mystery of Edgar Allan Poe' performed throughout Germany and Switzerland. For the first time in a few years I also acted and played piano live in this show - a wonderful piece of integrated music-theatre. The legendary three-hander 'Dinner For One', again with live piano, will be performed again at New Year in Rosenheim and Munich, hopefully to the "same acclaim as every year, James"!

2009 gave me the chance to write the music for 'Gulliver's Travels'. Many full songs in this show, sung live by the actors to my recorded tracks, much of the time while they were dancing on stilts! 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' was also staged for a second time this year (third tour in total so far) with an all new cast. 'Many Voices' was toured earlier in a year which ended, as usual these days, with 'Dinner For One', this time playing a few more days of performances not just the traditional New Year's Eve, such is the success of this version of the show.

2008 saw a re-run of Oscar Wilde's 'The Canterville Ghost' more or less ten years after the original ADGE production, as well as a new commission to write the music for 'Harold & Maude' which also toured from January 2008. Due to the popularity of 'Fahrenheit 451' this also retoured from January 2008. 'Canterville' had a successful return in Slovenia, Poland and Japan in the Autumn of 2008, and 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' by Oscar Wilde began its first tour in Germany from September 2008. 'Dinner For One' was successfully performed again on New Year's Eve in Munich.

The new project for 2007 was 'Many Voices' which began touring Germany in March and ran again in 2008, 2009 and 2010. This year saw my first performance (acting/piano) in a live version of 'Dinner For One', a piece made famous by Freddie Frinton on early sixties German television and which has been shown regularly in many European countries ever since.

The 2006 production featuring my music was Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein' which could be seen in France, Germany and Poland. This toured again in January 2007 along with a new production, 'Fahrenheit 451'.  'Macbeth' also did a short re-run from January 2007, and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' played at the Peking Theatre Festival in May, followed by two weeks in Japan and the German Castles tour from June 2007.

2005 brought a rerun of 'Lord of the Flies', which toured Germany, Poland, Spain and Slovenia, as well as a short restaging of 'Macbeth' - this time in Japan, Thailand and, especially exciting, Shanghai, China for the first time.

2003 saw a production of Arthur Miller's 'Death of a Salesman' followed in 2004 by Miller's 'The Crucible'. Yes, we even managed to make a successful music-theatre piece featuring musical Puritans!

From May 2002, first in Japan then in Castles all over Germany and Holland, Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' toured featuring my music as part prerecorded and part live - three of the actors play violin! Great!

The new 2001 music-theatre project was 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' which began touring Germany from October. There were plans to recreate this version in China as a co-production with a Chinese cast in 2008, though in the end the ADGE original version will play there sometime in 2011. 'Macbeth' toured again for three months from January 28th 2001.

The project for September 2000 was a new music-theatre version of 'Macbeth' which played to packed houses in Japan, America (Atlanta) as well as all the usual venues in Germany and France.

In May 2000 'Moby Dick' toured again in Athens (Megaron), Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein as well as the Highlands of Scotland.

1998 saw a retour of Oscar Wilde's 'The Canterville Ghost' (the main project from 1997) due to its fantastic success in Germany, France, Hong Kong and Japan, followed quickly by Huxley's 'Brave New World'. My music for this might be described as 'Techno meets Glenn Miller'!

1995 brought a commission to co-write, and perform, the music for an extensive European tour in 1996 of 'Moby Dick' with the American Drama Group Europe. This piece was subsequently performed in Volos, Greece, for a major international music-theatre festival and symposium in September 1996. As a result of the success of 'Moby Dick' I was commissioned to write the music for an ADGE production of 'Lord of the Flies' (with an all girl cast!) which toured Europe in 1996 to great acclaim. This would be successfully toured again by the same group of actors in 1997 as well as being revived later in 2005 with an all new, but equally excellent group of girls.

My serious involvement in music-theatre performing and composing began in 1990 with the T.N.T. Theatre Company - still co-producing today with the American Drama Group Europe - whose show 'The Wizard of Jazz' enjoyed tremendous success in Leningrad (at The Comedy Theatre) and Munich (at the Biennale Festival) in April 1990. One of their most exciting music-theatre pieces, it received great critical acclaim at the 1992 Tokyo International Theatre Festival with further performances as part of the Stuttgart International Garden Festival during 1993 and a successful ten week German tour in 1994 as well as a short four week tour in the Highlands of Scotland. August of that same year saw a multi-media performance for NHK-TV in Osaka, Japan, with Ecoh - an Edinburgh based group whose members were also involved in 'The Wizard' show - the live broadcast attempted to draw attention to the plight of the world's rainforests.

My first venture into the world of music-theatre began in 1988 with a commission to co-write (and perform in) 'O'er The Hills' - the story of Northumbrian piper Jamie Allan. This piece also featured Kathryn Tickell and was the beginning of an ongoing association not only with Kathryn (with whom I have performed many times, both live and on her albums), but with the whole world of music-theatre itself.
